The Dr Aadil Moerat Bursary
Since 2022, three bursaries per year were budgeted, with one awarded to the top SP matriculant registered to study in the health sciences at one of the four universities in the Western Cape. The deserving student was chosen by the staff based on the award criteria – voluntary community work, financial need and academic record. The other two bursaries were awarded on application from undergraduate student studying in the health sciences.
The Trust was first established as a Bursary Fund in 1998 in memory of the late Aadil Moerat, and registered as a Trust in 2020. The Trust has provided bursaries since 2022 and also introduced the MN Top Student Prize for the top matriculant at SPHS. Currently it is a cash prize of R1000.00 paid directly into the student’s bank account. It is awarded during a prize-giving event at the school immediately after the matric results have been announced. The Trust has Level 1 B-BBEE status and is also a registered Public Benefit Organisation and can issue a Section 18a certificate for donations.
